THE BATTLE OF THE MIND (Part Two)

| For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

2 Corinthians 10: 3-5

The conscious mind basically receives information from two sources, namely the internal and external sources. The internal source of information is the unconscious mind while the external sources are the five physical senses (Read the part one of this study). The unconscious mind hosts the record of past things that happened to us whether good or bad, positive or negative. The conscious mind does not have the capacity to hold information for a long time. It is where thinking, analysis and perception take place.

What you see, watch, feel, taste, smell and hear affect your thinking. The devil also takes advantage of these to inject afflicting or obsessive thoughts into your mind. Sometimes, you want to stop what you are thinking about but you cannot stop thinking about it. This is actually the nature of obsessive thoughts the devil injects into your mind. For instance, the devil injects sexual thoughts and images in your mind; you start thinking about it and cannot stop thinking about it even when you want to quit. At this point your Human Will has been weakened; your level of resistance against such thoughts is reduced. Your thought pattern has been hijacked by invisible and powerful beings. It is torture to be in that state of mind. In this situation, you cannot overcome these thoughts by thinking positive thoughts. Your mind is under attack by mind-binding spirit.

The solution to this is to firmly and verbally talk to the evil spirit that is behind the thought. For example, if your mind is obsessively attacked by thoughts of rape or suicide, you should quietly, in a firm tone, command the evil spirit behind the thought to get out of your mind using the Name of Jesus Christ. This is what to say, “You evil spirit that causes me to think of rape, I command you in the name of Jesus Christ, get out of my mind.” Repeatedly say this and you will discover that within a short time the obsession will disappear. This is one of the first steps to living victoriously against unwanted thoughts, demonic oppression and winning the battle of the mind.

Demonic possession, obsession and oppression may not be recognised by some professionals as means by which an individual can be tempted to act evil. The fact that an evil spirit can influence a man to do evil cannot be denied. There are cases all over the Bible where evil spirits control, manipulate and influence men and women to do evil.
