WHO AM I?
| Discovering your purpose and remaining true to your individuality is an essential key to achieving success. We are in the age where people think that character impersonation, identity hijacking and assuming personality of renowned men and celebrities will make them great. To be outstanding, unique and excellent in life and career demands you remain original. Doors are closed, favour is hampered and opportunities are lost when your originality is swallowed in another man’s personality. The Scripture below shows how Jacob hijacked his brother’s identity to gain undue advantage.
And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son: And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck: And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob. And he came unto his father, and said, my father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son? And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me…… And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.
Genesis 27: 15-19, 22
WHO ARE YOU?
“And he came unto his father, and said, my father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my Son”… I am Esau thy firstborn. Are you Jacob claiming to be Esau? Unhealthy imitation exposes low self esteem, diminishes a sense of worth and stifles inner confidence. A person who is not true to himself engages in personality hypes to gain influence and undeserved benefits. He sabotages his values to achieve his ambitions. Would it not be better to invest and develop your own individuality than to assume another man’s personality? To have a well adjusted personality you need to discover and accept who you are through a personal revelation of Christ. Success in life is not just about physical acquisitions, it is about fulfillment; and this fulfillment is rooted in your originality.
THE HAND OF JACOB THE VOICE OF ESAU
Dual personality is when someone assumes alternately two different identities. “And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, the voice is Jacob’s voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.” Any individual with dual identity manipulates his/her way to the top. He is unrealistic, unconstructive and indecisive when faced with challenges; he is a schemer. A person with a dual personality is not consistent in character, he has the nature of a Chameleon. He easily adapts to a situation even if his values are compromised. He is an actor playing out a script; he is not original and not true to himself. He is gripped with inner turmoil and personality conflict. Do you sound gentle like Jacob when things are pleasant but abrasive like Esau when things are unpleasant? Think about this!
“I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.” Individuals with dual Personalities have the propensity of using illicit means to secure gains and advantages. Theyare ready to forge documents, offer their body, give and solicit bribe to secure gains and advantages. Jacob offered savoury meal to his father. What do you illicitly offer to secure gains and advantages. Being true to yourself breeds confidence. A confident person is a person of integrity. “WHO ARE YOU?”
Principle. Success in life is not just about physical acquisitions, it is about
fulfillment; this fulfillment is rooted in your originality.
Ruminate. Unhealthy imitation exposes low self esteem, diminishes a sense of worth and stifles inner confidence.
