The Good Mistake

| Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

1 Corinthians 2: 6-8

The devil was not ignorant of the fact that Jesus came to distribute God’s Life to men, but the method through which this Life would be given was unknown to him. When his plan to kill Jesus at infancy failed, he resorted to subtly hijack this Life in the wilderness through a series of temptations presented to Christ. Following several failed attempts to kill Jesus before his time by instigating the Jews against him, the devil now resolved to kill Him by plotting His crucifixion at Calvary. What he did not realise though, was that his plot to have Christ crucified was actually God’s plan to distribute His Life to men. For this reason, the plot to crucify Christ at Calvary succeeded because it was God’s ordained plan for the redemption of mankind.

If only the devil had known that the crucifixion of Christ will bring about his own demise, he certainly will not have plotted it! Once again, God’s infinite wisdom was displayed in that His plan for giving Life to man through the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ was hidden from the devil and the princes of the world.

Eternal Life in Christ Jesus is the greatest gift God has given to man. What we have in Christ is more than what Adam lost. By the new birth, we possess what Adam missed, the very Life of God. Jesus did not just restore unto us the authority that Adam lost, but He freely gave us the Life he missed. Jesus did not come into the world just to make us rich. There were so many rich men on earth before He came. This is not to suggest that material wealth is outside the scope of God’s plan for us. The point I am making is simply that there is something more important than riches which Christ brought to us. He did not just come so that we can have miracles; many outstanding miracles were performed before He came.

Jesus was not the first to raise the dead, nor the first to divinely multiply food. Jesus walked on the sea while Moses divided the sea. Miracles, signs and wonders could still be performed if Christ did not come, however there was something Christ brought to us that all these great men in the Old Testament could not offer. Christ became superior to these men not by the miracles He performed, but by being the son of God, who died and was raised from the dead, and who through His death and resurrection, has given us Eternal Life. He is alive forever!
