THE HUMAN SPIRIT (Part 2)
| God is a Spirit and man also is a spirit. Though man is not divine, he is in the same class of being with God.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 4: 24
But there is a spirit in man: the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Job 32: 8
The fact that God is a Spirit does not mean He is formless. The Bible mentions about God’s eyes, hands and mouth. He sits, He talks and He moves, describing what is commonly referred to as God’s spirit body. This God’s spirit body appears to be ethereal in nature and invisible to human eyes; it’s more real than all our eyes can see. This form of God can only be seen by man if his spiritual eyes are open as in the case of Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 6: 1. God’s spirit body is not the Holy Spirit. It is also important to note here that God and the Holy Spirit are two different personalities that are parts of the Godhead.
Jesus, Himself, confirmed this fact that God does have a shape, according the Scripture below.
And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.
John 5: 37
When God first created man He formed him out of the dust of the ground. This refers to man’s body. When He breathed into him the breath of life he became a living soul. The breath of life is referred to as ‘Pneuma’ in Greek, which is by analogy a spirit. So in essence what God put in man through breathing was part of His being, it is called God’s spirit body. It is this God’s spirit body that the Bible refers to as the image and the likeness of God in man. It is called the human spirit.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Genesis 1: 27
When the (created) human spirit came into contact with the (formed) body of man, the soul of man which is referred to as ‘Psucha’ in Greek was formed. Man’s spirit is made of the same substance as God’s spirit body. The human spirit is made of the same substance as God’s spirit body in quality but not in capacity. In spite of the fact that a person receives God’s Life in the same quality and measure as Christ had, and his spirit recreated at the point of salvation, yet his human spirit is limited in capacity in comparison with God’s spirit body.
Although we are in the same class of being as God, we cannot do all He is able to do. Our human spirit is made with the same quality of substance as God’s spirit body, yet we are not equal in capacity and dimensions. While it is good and profitable to train and grow our human spirit for spiritual fitness and exploits, we can never grow it to God’s capacity and dimensions, no matter how hard we try. Remember God inhabits eternity and He is sovereign, Isaiah 57:15.
But one in a certain place testified, saying; what is man, that thou art mindful of him? Or the son of man that thou visitest him? Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; thou crownedst him with glory and honour, and did set him over the works of thy hands.
Hebrews 2: 6, 7
The word angel in these Scriptures means Elohim. One translation reads “…..Thou hast made him a little lower than God.” Elohim is a plural word which referrers to more than one separate and distinct personality in Godhead. This means that man was made a little lower than Elohim (God) in the capacity of his human spirit and not in the quality of substance as per the nature of his spirit. No wonder Jesus said to the Pharisees:
“Is it not written in your law, I said, ye are gods.”
John 10: 34
This statement by Jesus, however, does not mean He supports the gospel of individualism being promoted by the New Age, which is gradually creeping into the Church. It should be noted that there is a big difference between New Creation Realities teachings and the New Age Movement message of individualism.
